Timely Information for Takedown Scoring and Stats Users
Copying from a Paper Scorebook
Can you copy results from a paper scorebook to Takedown? Of course!
Often this is the only method for capturing all your results at a tournament when multiple athletes are competing simultaneously. So, go ahead and transcribe your paper scoring results to Takedown to get a full statistical accounting of your team's performance.
A few things to keep in mind when copying scoring from paper:
START THE MATCH CLOCK, even if you're copying from a scorebook. Unless the match clock is running, the scoring buttons are not enabled. You can enter the results as quickly as you want. If you don't start the match clock and try to score the match using lots of sequential Override taps, the match can end up in a state that makes Takedown misbehave.
At match end, you'll see the alert below. If you're copying scoring from a paper scorebook, then tap "Copying." This action will exclude copied match scoring from statistical reports (Riding Time and Short-Time Scoring) that rely on match clock information not available from matches scored on paper.
Matches copied from a paper source will have an underline ("__") beneath the weight class in the Scorebook, Box Score and Seeding Meeting Reports. This is just a reminder that the indicated match wasn't scored live.
Scoring from non-paused video is the same as scoring live. If you don't pause the video, you won't get the alert shown above. From Takedown's perspective, it's just like a live match.
Takedown Makes the Big Time
Fun time yesterday at Stanford University's Burnham Pavillion watching Stanford v. Northwestern dual meet. Stanford uses Takedown to score their matches and generate performance statistics. Yesterday, they kept their expensive pedestal scoreboard in the closet and instead used Takedown's inexpensive and automatically generated scoreboard on their 90" wall-mounted flat panel display.
Here it is in action. With :49 left in the first period, no score in the 184 pound match.
Another match, first period with 2:09 to go, NWU up 2-0 with :38 of riding time advantage. NWU is on top ( as indicated by the chevron under the NWU score).
And, here's the Stanford wrestling manager using Takedown. See the green cable? That's the full extent of the setup -- run an HDMI cable from your iPad to your flat panel display. Stanford's display is huge, but the setup is the same no matter how large (or small) your panel. Also, instead of having one person run the scoreboard and another person doing the scoring, only a single person is required since the scoreboard content is automatically generated by Takedown.
Stanford also used Takedown to stream the action to their 6,000+ Twitter fans:
The outcome for the Cardinal wasn't great but Takedown had an outstanding debut on the big stage.
What about your program? If Takedown works for two premiere Division I NCAA wrestling programs, think it'll work for your high school or middle school program?
Be the coolest team in your conference, download Takedown from the App Store today and throw your paper scorebook in the trash.

Release 1.7 is available for download on the App Store. This release offers exciting new features for scorers, fans, coaches and athletes.
New Injury and Riding Time Clocks
Takedown now offers a full set of injury and riding time clocks for each wrestler. These clocks, appearing on the Match Scoring page, can be hidden or viewed at the user's discretion by swiping the associated tab. When a clock is tapped, the match scoring clock stops and an appropriate notation appears in the scoring matrix. The clocks are cumulative (except for recovery) and user adjustable. When a clock approaches its maximum allowable value, a visual cue appears on-screen. Here's an example of the new clocks in action:
For college, each wrestler has a riding time clock and riding time advantage is automatically calculated and displayed. Riding time advantage is noted at the end of each period:
Enhanced Digital Scoreboard
Takedown's digital scoreboard got a makeover! The presentation is easier to read at a distance, a change many officials will find helpful:
Also, when an injury is scored, the associated clock displays on the scoreboard. The normal scoreboard presentation reappears when the injury event concludes:
In-Depth Performance Stats for each Wrestler
Takedown's new Wrestler Profile report collects existing stats into a single page presentation of wrestler performance. In addition, new stats allow a coach to answer the question: "what's the chance of this wrestler getting a Takedown?"
Scoring and Weigh-In Improvements
Release 1.7 offers a variety of enhancements to the Event and Match Scoring pages:
Undo choice and previous period simplifies error-correction
Edit opponent name after match ends
Random draw generated random weight class for starting dual meet
Copy weigh-ins from another event
Single page weigh-in form for both teams in dual meet

Pricing
Takedown 1.7 is available now on the App Store. With this new release, the price for scoring a match is ten cents for high school and slightly higher for college. Matches purchased in release 1.6 (and earlier) will roll over to this new release, so you can purchase as many matches as you'd like at release 1.6 prices and then install 1.7. In October, match prices in Release 1.6 (and earlier) will change to reflect the current 1.7 pricing.
Takedown Takeaway Winner
Congratulations to the Fowlerville Gladiator Wrestling team for winning February's Takedown Takeaway! Their prize, an iPad Bluetooth Keyboard/Case combo, is on the way to Fowlerville, Michigan.
We asked the coach, Sean Harvey, to tell us about his experience with Takedown. Here's what he said:
My role with the high school team is asst. coach. I was in charge of all paperwork and doing all stats for the team.
This is the first season that we have used the app. We have looked around for a couple of years for a decent stat app and I just didn't like how any of the others ones worked.
Then one day I came across Takedown while searching for new stat apps prior to the season starting. I liked how it flowed and how easy it was to put in match details.
I talked to the head coach about using it this season and he was fine with trying it out this season. I think he enjoyed me using it as it made tracking things much easier for him.
It has made it so much easier to get stats out to the kids quickly (not having to go home and hand figure everything out). I would print out a scoring detail report after every match so the kids could see how they did that night/day.
I would also print out a season scoring detail report every week and it created a lot of competition on the team as the wrestlers could see where they ranked in certain categories and worked harder to move up the rankings!
The app also made it easier for me as an Asst. Coach as it is my responsibility to get the match info out to the local papers. At the end of the night, I emailed all the box scores to 3 different newspapers and received many compliments from them each about how nice it was to have something like that emailed to them vs. called in to them and left on a voice mail.
It has made it easier for me as the head coach of the junior high team to see where our deficiencies are thru the scoring reports and to be able to let the kids know what aspect they need to work on in the room (ie. td's, escapes).
It has also saved me a ton of time with the seeding meeting report, especially coming into our junior high league meet this weekend. I don't have to go back thru the scorebook and retype all of the opponents out.
I also loved how easy it was to get support for problems I had as I was beginning to learn how to use the app. My concerns were attended to promptly and with professionalism from the Takedown staff.
I love the tweets that are sent out from the app. A lot of our fans look forward to tweets every dual during the season so they can keep up with how the team is doing.
Congratulations to Fowlerville wrestling!
